PIECES OF US // EYES CLOSED

PIECES OF US // EYES CLOSED | Amanda Zampelli

EYES CLOSED // What a stark difference today’s prompt is compared to yesterday’s ‘face forward’ where it was all about YOUR FACE. HULL-LLO! No holds barred, eyes into the camera, recognizing and facing the YOU you outwardly present to the world…while today it’s more about turning inward. It’s almost like the second your eyes shut, you - your TRUE self - gets the opportunity to check in. This prompt is about SOUL to me.

I had a therapist once who would have me spend 5 minutes before our session was over closing my eyes as she guided me through a meditation. She’d asked, “Shall we bring in the golden light?” She’d have me visualize this warm, golden light beaming on my head, traveling down my neck, arms, and legs, flowing through my feet and extending out to grow roots into the ground. She had me imagine myself feeling supported and loved by Mother Earth, while getting illuminated from the sky above. I loved it.

A goal of mine for 2020 is to close my eyes at least once everyday and check in with body and soul: What do you really need from me? Some rest? More water? A stretch? Movement? Stillness? A vegetable? A vent sesh? A cocktail? Slower breath? etc. Whatever it tells me, I’ll listen. Let’s listen. Let’s listen and trust and accept and surrender and acknowledge and support. Namaste.

This post is a part of Ali Edwards’ self portrait adventure challenge PIECES OF US.

I am planning on participating as way to do a few things:

1. pop back on Instagram - I haven’t been able to “get into it” lately (my last post was on New Year’s Day)

2. explore my body through my olw little word: HOME - I’ve been thinking of my body as my ‘home’ & I want to explore that idea this week through the lens of this challenge

3. find out what really matters to me - …in terms of my creativity & what I want to share. I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately…that zest and direction for how I want to use my voice & craft has had little to no focus since I went back to teaching, and slowly but surely I’m getting more clear about it. I think this challenge is a good start.

4. ALSO FUN TO NOTE: Kristin + I recorded a podcast episode dedicated to the whole thing!

We talk about our plan for the week with this challenge, the magic of being part of a creative community of memory keepers, and everything in between.
