THURSDAY THREE

#Thursday3 is a hashtag created by my friend and co-host Kristin Tweedale to document your ‘right now’ whatever it may look like. Kristin's #Thursday3 weekly selfie challenge calls you to: (1) take + post a photo of yourself on Instagram, (2) share three 'right now' things going on in your world , and (3) tag three of your friends to do the same. // See my post on Instagram HERE.

THURSDAY THREE | Amanda Zampelli

Here are my three…

  1. I’ve been hanging out on my fire escape. I think this might be illegal. Nonetheless, around 1-2pm — right around when I finish my day of remote teaching — the sun hits it and I’m on it. I’ve been laying down blankets and a pillow, taking my laptop out there to research and work on my own stuff, and letting the sun hit my skin for an hour before I have to come in and start making dinner.

  2. Blackout Tuesday has turned into Blackout JUNE for me. I - like everyone with a soul - was tremendously impacted by what has transpired in the past two weeks and the increased social consciousness about issues that, quite frankly, I’m ashamed to admit had been living in my unconscious for far too long. I am taking this month to PAUSE and LISTEN and LEARN and UNLEARN …in order to come up with the ways I can ACT and UNITE in the fight for non-white lives. I have purposely not gone back to regularly scheduled programming because I’ve been using my daily posting energy to educate myself, donate where I can, research literature to use with my students, and watch videos from teachers of color (like @thetututeacher) on how to have the hard conversations with them that inevitably follow. I’ve been gathering up powerful resources I’ve found helpful and have been linking to them and journalling about them in a blog post I will publish at the end of the month. This is how I know to do it. Photos of my cats and planner can wait.

  3. There are two weeks left of this cooky, yet incredibly rewarding school year. I’m hoping in the last 10 days of school, I can get the kids to write a thank you letter to our teacher helper that they never got to say a proper goodbye to, and create with me some kind of digital memory book they can have forever. We’ll see. Man, I hope I served them well.
