GRAMS'S FLORIDIAN CONDO

GRAMS'S FLORIDIAN CONDO | Amanda Zampelli

It’s sad when you look back and realize that while you were visiting some place great - some place you’ve routinely visited for over two decades - you didn’t know you were experiencing it for the last time.

I wrote about Tom and my first vacation to Florida together, and shared about the couple of days we visited Grams’ in her fancy Floridian condo. Well, that was to be the last time I’d ever see that place.

Grams has become so physically crippled, that she could no longer live on her own and take care of herself. She sold her condo and as of this month has officially become a New Yorker again, as a permanent resident in my mother’s house.

I’m so glad she’s here and accessible, but I’m sad for her too. She LOVED her Florida apartment. It was her style, her haven, and life. It must have been so painful for her to leave, and that’s currently where we’re at.

At least I have these photos I’ve taken over the years, so I’ll always remember what a special place it was:

…and I’m grateful Tom got to visit and experience the magic that it was. It’s always been a way I could vacation and “get away” while still returning to a bit of home: my grandma. I miss it already.
